Overview

Miguelito El Cariñoso Restaurante stands out as a genuine seafood haven nestled along the beautiful P.º Marítimo el Pedregal in Málaga-Este. This coastal gem invites both locals and visitors seeking an authentic taste of the Mediterranean, where fresh fish meets tradition and simplicity in a lively, sun-kissed setting.

The restaurant’s identity is deeply rooted in its specialties, with the Espeto de Sardines stealing the show. Cooked over an open fire right before your eyes, these sardines offer a smoky, tender bite that reflects the very essence of Málaga’s beachfront cuisine. This authentic grilling method gives the seafood a unique flavor that diners like Kenneth Geraci and Dave Stenssen praise explicitly, highlighting the unmatched freshness and quality.

Another standout is the Paella Mixta, a classic Spanish dish that here blends a variety of seafood with aromatic rice and subtle hints of Mediterranean spices. While it receives mixed feedback, its balance of flavors offers a genuine, homey experience reminiscent of the region’s culinary traditions. The Pata de Pulpo Espetado, clams, coquinas, and fried calamari further enrich the menu, ensuring every seafood lover finds something to savor.

The location itself adds a special dimension to dining here. Situated just steps from a serene beach, Miguelito El Cariñoso provides a relaxed atmosphere away from Málaga’s busier city center, appealing to those who want to enjoy great food without the typical tourist buzz. Its outdoor terrace is particularly sought after, ideal for savoring seafood while watching the sunset paint the horizon.

The experience is rounded out by attentive, warm service and a friendly ambiance. Though reservations are recommended—especially on weekends—the inviting space and quick service make waiting worthwhile. Its popularity among locals signals a mark of authenticity and quality that travelers can trust. Small details like the common addition of a mandatory tip across the area may catch first-timers by surprise, but the overall value remains strong.

In essence, Miguelito El Cariñoso Restaurante offers more than just a meal; it delivers a taste of Málaga’s coastal soul. Perfect for seafood aficionados searching for freshly grilled fish and classic dishes in a scenic, relaxed setting, it stands as a memorable stop on the Spanish culinary map.

Had a really nice long lunch here after walking out from Malaga. Sardines cooked over flame were delicious as was the fried Halibut. Russian salad was also excellent. Had a few nice cold beers with the seafood. Good value for money, try to get a table outside if you can

Delicious seafood, a place of locals right in front of a beautiful beach. Service is quick and kind, out of the city center and the tourist traps. Paella was yummy and so was the rest we tried. Highly recommend.

Paella was quite average in my opinion, not very tasty, slightly bitter, with little seafood and lots of chicken. Not bad, just not one you would remember. Service was however just perfect, and prices are not bad. The view is very nice at sunset, but the terrace was almost fully booked at evening opening on Friday, so it's probably best to book in advance. Be careful, the restaurants in this area (not just this one) add 10% tip on the bill by default.

Great food, but service wasn't very pleasant. Clean bathrooms, which wasn't the standard for many establishments in the area! Would recommend, but low your expectations for customer service if you're a tourist.
